About the CA Foundation Course
The CA Foundation course is the entry-level examination for aspiring Chartered Accountants, conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). This course replaced the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) in 2017 and follows a structured syllabus to test students on fundamental accounting, law, economics, and mathematics.
Eligibility
- Students can register for CA Foundation after passing Class 10th.
- Exemption: Graduates and postgraduates (Commerce graduates with 55% and others with 60%) can directly enroll in the CA Intermediate course.
Exemption
CA Foundation is exempt for Graduates, post-graduates, and students having equivalent degrees. Commerce graduates with 55% and others with 60% marks can take direct admission for the CA Intermediate.

Ans. CA Foundation examination is a written test that is conducted offline and held twice a year. There are four papers in the CA Foundation course. Out of them, Paper 1 and 2 are subjective papers, while Paper 3 and 4 are objective MCQ-based papers, which test your practical knowledge.
Q4. I am a Class XI student. Am I eligible to register for the Foundation Course?
Ans. Yes. Your first attempt for the Foundation Examination under the New Scheme of Education and Training will be in June, 2025 after appearing in the Class 12th examination conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government or the State Government as equivalent thereto.
Q5. How many attempts are there for the CA Foundation?
Ans. The validity period for registration in the Foundation Course is for 4 years from the first eligible attempt in the Foundation Examination. Through this, each student can take up to 8 attempts to clear the foundation Exam. Revalidation is not permitted at the Foundation level1
